XRPL Has a Native DeFi Stack
Unlike chains that bolt DeFi on top of a general-purpose VM, XRPL ships with DeFi primitives baked into the ledger itself: a central limit order book (CLOB), native token issuance, payment channels, and escrow.
Key Developer Primitives
| Primitive | What it enables |
|---|---|
| Native DEX (CLOB) | Trustless token swaps with on-chain order books |
| AMM (added 2024) | Automated market making alongside the CLOB |
| Trust Lines | Token issuance and credit relationships |
| Hooks (upcoming) | Smart contract logic triggered by transactions |
| EVM Sidechain | Full Solidity compatibility bridged to XRPL |
What's Changed in 2026
XRPL's Hooks amendment โ enabling lightweight smart contract logic directly on the ledger โ is in final testnet validation. Combined with the EVM sidechain and native AMM, XRPL now has a complete DeFi stack for the first time.
Why Build Here
Low, predictable fees. Fast finality (3โ5s). No MEV bots. A growing ecosystem of wallet infrastructure (Xaman, CrossMark) and institutional integrations. RheoFI is one of the protocols building on this foundation.
